The Moth, New York’s sensational story telling group is bringing its signature show to the Arlene Schnitzer Concert Hall!
The Moth is a non profit group (currently based in New York City) dedicated to the art and craft of storytelling. It was founded in 1997 by poet and novelist George Dawes Green with the objective of recreating the feeling of sultry summer evenings in his home state of Georgia (where he and friends would gather on his front porch and tell spellbinding stories). The group was initially called The Moths, in reference to moths gathering around the porch light during these storytelling sessions. Besides New York City, the group also runs a number of storytelling programs in Los Angeles, Chicago, Detroit, and many other American cities. Its stories and shows are renowned for showcasing a great range of human experience and for storytellers exploring themes in often unexpected ways. The Moth has presented over 18,000 stories and it currently produces more than 500 live shows each year. It also runs storytelling workshops for high school students and adults through education and community Programs. It also hosts a weekly podcast and in 2009, it launched The Moth Radio Hour; a national public radio show that went on to win a Peabody Award and is licensed by more than 200 public radio stations.
Don’t miss your chance to see the group that’s presented thousands of stories told live and without notes!
