Rick Springfield (birth name Richard Lewis Springthorpe) was born in Guildford (New South Wales, Australia) in 1949 and is a musician, singer, songwriter, actor, and author. He began his musical journey by learning to play the guitar at the age of 13 and went on to be a member of various bands during the 60s. He began his solo career in the 70s with the release of his debut single, Speak to the Sky. It was a top 10 hit in Australia and his follow up single, Jessie's Girl, topped the charts in both the US and Australia. He’s had a stellar career with 17 studio albums, 2 live albums, 6 compilation albums, 11 music videos, 34 singles, and 1 soundtrack album. He won the 1982 Grammy Award for Best Rock Vocal Male Performance (for Jessie’s Girl) and he's been nominated for 3 more Grammy Awards (for Best Pop Vocal Performance Male and 2 for Best Rock Vocal Male Performance). He released his autobiography (Late, Late at Night: a Memoir) in 2010 and it reached #13 on The New York Times Best Seller list. Rolling Stone magazine included it on its list of The 25 Great Rock Memoirs of All Time.
