Mark O'Connor was born in 1961 in Seattle and is a violinist, fiddler, composer and music teacher. He began his musical journey by taking classical guitar lessons as a child and then taught himself to play flamenco music. He started to learn the fiddle when he was 11 and it wasn’t long before he was learning from American fiddling icon, Benny Thomasson. He went on to study under French jazz violinist Stéphane Grappelli (and toured with him as well) and then worked with Dave Grisman (renowned bluegrass/newgrass mandolinist and composer) and his Quintet, as well as with Steve Morse (guitarist and composer, best known as the founder of instrumental band Dixie Dregs). Between 1975 and 1982, Mark took part in numerous guitar, fiddle, and mandolin competitions and won many of them. His musical style is a unique blend of various genres such as country, bluegrass, jazz, classical and it’s led to a stellar career with 39 studio albums, 3 singles, and 4 music videos. He’s received numerous accolades including 2 Grammy Awards, a CMA Vocal Event of the Year award, and he was named Musician of the Year by the Country Music Association six years straight.
