Alt-J, England’s sensational indie rock artists are bringing their signature sounds to the Arlene Schnitzer Concert Hall!
The band was formed in Leeds (England) in 2007 by Gwil Sainsbury (guitar/bass), Joe Newman (guitar/lead vocals), Thom Green (drums), and Gus Unger-Hamilton (keyboards/vocals). Their musical style can be best described as a blend of indie rock, indie pop (a subgenre of alternative/indie rock originating in the United Kingdom in the late 1970s and differing from indie rock to the extent that it’s more melodic, less abrasive, and relatively angst free), and art rock (a subgenre of rock music that generally reflects a challenging or avant-garde approach to rock, and is often distinguished by the use of electronic effects and easy listening textures far removed from the propulsive rhythms of early rock). They’ve had a stellar career with 2 studio albums, 1 live album, 6 music videos, 3 extended plays, and 10 singles. They’ve received many accolades including a British Mercury Prize, an Ivor Novello Award, and they’ve been nominated for 3 Brit Awards (for British Breakthrough Act, British Album of the Year, and British Group of the Year), a Grammy Award (for Best Alternative Music Album), and an IMPALA Award (for European Independent Album of the Year). Their latest album (Relaxer) comes out on 9th June 2017.
